THE TRIBE OF GEORGE -- FIRST WIFE

Chapter V
    
    Stephen Tope was married to Jemima Kail, daughter of Gabriel Kail, of then near New Rumley, and a sister of Jesse Kail, who was living a few years ago near Canton, 0. She has also a half brother, Hiram Kail, residing near Perrysville, 0. They first set up house-keeping at Tope's Mills, and Mr. Tope followed the business of a miller for several years. Afterward they moved to a farm now known as the John McHugh place, and, subsequently, he purchased" the farm he owned when he died, located nearly two miles south ofAlgonqum, and now owned by James Tripp. To them were born ten children: Mary, Jacob, Sarah, Louisa, Jackson, Jasper, Levi, Maria, Martha and George B.
  Jemima, wife of Stephen Tope, died of dropsy October 3, 1870,-aged 63 years 11 months and 2 days, and was buried in the Mt. Pleasant cemetery, Union township, Carroll county, 0. And her husband followed her on September 26, 1871-aged 70 vears, 7 months and 16 days. He died of cholera morbus, after a few hours' sickness, at the residence of James Marshall, (Marshall having married his son Jacob Tope's widow), near New Harnsburg, 0., whither he had gone on a visit. Interment by the side of his wife. He went to school only two days in his life, but learned to read and write after he was married. Of his children—
    (a) Mary, married to Jacob Alien, (deceased Dec. 6, 1896), a farmer of Union township, Carroll county, 0. They reared a large family of children: Levi, Jemima, William, Stephen T., Jackson W., Hiram James, one dead, Amanda, Jasper, Mary F. and Jacob, all seven sons noted fiddlers; and one daughter, Mary F., an organist.      Levi married Mary A. Armstrong, studied medicine with Dr. Black while living in Carroll county, moved to Amsterday, Jefferson county, where he now resides. Has practiced medicine twenty-seven years. Their children are: Laura, Brady (married Francis Wilson), Alva, Lafayette, Lillian, Lizzie and Roy.  
    Jemima married A. J. McCauley, and lives at Connotton, 0. They had six children: Jacob Joseph (married Nellie Brown), Mary C. (dead), James A. (dead). Or vie L., Curtis W. and Andrew C.
    William married Maggie A. May, had two children, Hinckley and Emory;  his wife is dead, and he was at Bakersfield, Cal., at the last account.
    Stephen T. married Elizabeth A. Scott; they had three children: Orpha (married to James Wilkinson, Empire, 0.), and Virgil and Vernie (twins), deceased. He is a minister of the M. P. Church, now at Mt. Vernon, 0.
    Jackson married Chastina Scott, they have three children, Roy, Donna and Coyla; he is janitor of a large school building at Great Falls, Montana.
    Hiram J. born July 27, 1852, was married to Rena Scott, (born June 16, 1865 ) of Dell Roy, 0., August 9, 1885; they have three children, Clyde E., born Dec. 20, 1886 and died March 17, 1888, Lottie D., born on Feb. 7, 1888, and Morris F., born May 28, 1891; he is a farmer of Union township, Carroll ounty, 0.   
    Amanda married Joseph Parker, had two children, James and Ida; married to David dark and had six more children, Verda, Corma, Lulu, Tommy, Oma and Madie Pearl; she is dead.
    Jasper N. (deceased), a farmer, was married to Susan Russell, and they had one son.
